Jennifer Culp says getting an early jump on campaigning will lead to greater engagement from Anderson voters.

“I believe the mayor’s race is a big race, and it’s not something that happens in just eight weeks,” she said. “And so, I wanted to get my name out there right away. If you start talking about it now, getting people excited, maybe more of the citizens will participate.”

In her campaign launch video, Culp says her campaign will focus on things like creating new jobs and supporting small businesses in Anderson.

Culp has served almost 12 years on the Anderson City Council and cannot run for that seat while also running for mayor.

“I think 12 years is plenty,” she said. “I am very proud of a lot of the things that I’ve accomplished in the city.”

Culp says she has lived in Anderson since she was 11 and currently lives in her childhood home, so she has a personal investment in the city’s success. Her husband, Todd Culp, serves as the Madison County auditor, an elected position.

Current Anderson Mayor Thomas Broderick has not formally announced whether he will be seeking another term.

Local politician Larry Savage previously announced he will also be campaigning for the Republican mayoral nomination in next year’s primary election.
