The opening of Muncie’s second Pay Less grocery store has been delayed until May, according to company officials.

In an email, Kroger spokesman Eric Halvorson says the renovation of the former Marsh store on Tillotson Avenue in Muncie will cost nearly $5 million.   The planned construction has pushed the projected March opening date back to “late May,” according to Halvorson.

He says part of that cost will include:

  • a re-designed entrance to the store
  • self-checkout lanes
  • online order grocery pick-up that the company calls “ClickList”
  • a reshuffling of existing departments within the store, like bakery, produce, and floral

The first Pay Less store in Muncie opened in December in the former Marsh building on McGalliard Rd.
