Muncie Redevelopment Commission Head Appointed
A member of Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour’s transition team has a permanent position in his administration – for the second time.
At a Monday city council meeting, David Smith was appointed to head the Muncie Redevelopment Commission. Smith is a retired state police officer who spent part of his time there fighting public corruption. He was also a Muncie mayoral candidate himself, running as a Democrat in 2019.
This is the second appointment announcement for Smith. He was originally appointed to head the city’s Street Department. On January 1, Ridenour walked back that announcement and appointed City Engineer Brian Stephens-Hotopp to take care of the city’s infrastructure, including running the Street Department.
The Muncie Redevelopment Commission helps the area to grow, including helping bring new businesses to the area. It also deals with blighted and abandoned properties in Muncie.
