Indiana Michigan Power sees an end to its Tillotson Avenue construction project – at least near IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.  As IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports, the project’s next phase moves north.

In a Wednesday statement, Indiana Michigan Power says it will wrap up construction on Tillotson Avenue where it currently is “within the next few weeks.”  The project had been extended significantly after more damage than expected was found to underground infrastructure.

But the company also says it won’t repave Tillotson until it coordinates with the city of Muncie – sometime in 2026.

Then, the project to replace transmission lines moves north on the same street.  I&M says it will affect Twickingham Drive and Riggin Road.  And, instead of a single lane, the closures will be full road closures, going block-by-block.  The company says it will be contacting residents in the area with details.

Drivers on Bethel Avenue will see additional work as I&M replaces overhead lines near Northside Middle School and Ball State University’s football stadium.  Traffic control measures will also be used there when necessary.

“Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible,” said Rob Keisling, External Affairs manager, in the company’s Wednesday statement. “We appreciate the community’s ongoing patience and cooperation while we work to improve reliability.”

The company says all that work will continue through fall of 2026.
