In a video update on social media, Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour says he has cancer.

“So, it’s prostate cancer, but it has moved from the slow-moving kind to a faster-moving kind.  So, we’re going to have a surgery to remove it.”

He says in the next “30 to 40 days” that surgery will cause him to miss six weeks of work.

Muncie no longer has a deputy mayor, with budget cuts eliminating the position in late 2024 going forward.  It was a position Ridenour had reinstated in his first term.

“Each of the different departments knows what they need to accomplish,” Ridenour says. “And I honestly don’t feel like they need to know what decisions to make.”

Ridenour says he won’t be coming into the office, but would be available by phone to department leaders he says are strong.

“I have great confidence and I hope the city will have great confidence that they know what they’re doing in their particular departments.”

Ridenour says he is a strong man of faith and that he would take community prayers.  And he asked Munsonians to get their annual physical and get any tests their doctors order.
