Brought to you by the David Owsley Museum of Art, the Ball State School of Art and IPR. 00:13:16:19 - 00:13:42:08 Gwyn Burton The smells of warm bread, a crackling fire, cooked meat and fresh fruits and vegetables almost waft through the second floor of the David Owsley Museum of Art. The Netherlandish painter Pieter Aertsen laid out a true feast in kitchen still life, with a scene of the supper and beyond. In the foreground, Aertsen shows his skill by depicting a large lambs head, loaves of bread, apples, carrots, pears, lettuce, onions and a single fish that is partially flayed. 00:13:42:10 - 00:14:02:15 Gwyn Burton This lavish buffet is symbolic of the spiritual nourishment that was seen beyond promises. Although the food might catch your attention first, the most important part of and scene is in the upper right corner, where Jesus and two of his disciples sit around a dining table. According to the Gospel of Saint Luke, this supper, Emmaus, took place after Jesus's crucifixion. 00:14:02:17 - 00:14:35:18 Gwyn Burton These disciples sat down to dine with a man they did not recognize as Jesus until he broke the bread, as he had done at the Last Supper.
