A Muncie Democratic caucus has selected a replacement for former city councilman Ray Dudley.

Brandon Garrett will represent District 3.  It’s a job he’s wanted for a while, after running against Dudley in the 2019 primary election.  Garrett grew up in District 3 and said during his campaign that he considers his constituents to be family.

Five candidates ran to hold the city council seat. Garrett won in the first round of voting.  His first meeting will be February 1.

Former Delaware County Sheriff Dudley stepped down from the council to devote more time to his new job as chief of security at Muncie Community Schools.

This is the second new councilperson to be added in 2021.  A Republican caucus also appointed a member to replace Richard Ivy, who was named as the city’s Deputy Mayor.
